SMC Corporation is the world’s largest pneumatics company supporting the automation, controls and process industries with technical development centers in Japan, the U.S., Europe and China. Their current warehouse expansion project will increase warehouse capacity by 30%, increase production capacity, and is projected to add 92 jobs to Noblesville over the next five years. The corporate campus will serve as the primary North American engineering, manufacturing and distribution center for SMC’s vast offerings of industrial automation components.
Ryan Fireprotection is proud to be a part of this project, which will increase the size of the facility to a whopping 1,000,000 square feet. Ryan Fireprotection equipped the facility with nearly 11,000 sprinkler heads within approximately 27 sprinkler systems. One interesting aspect of the project was the installation of a Pressure Limiting Diesel fire pump that supplies an underground fire loop. The PLD fire pump can sense a drop in pressure and ramp up RPM to maintain a flat water curve, which helps reduce pipe size and maintain water volume and pressure.
There were many interesting challenges when it came to coordinating these efforts with other contractors. Ryan Fireprotection had to complete work in between the roof decking and the slab pad pours. They also cut vent and exhaust lines in the roof, which is 40 feet above the floor. Ryan Fireprotection also installed 25-foot hangers prior to the office being built in order to hang sprinkler piping immediately above the ceiling.
SMC’s headquarters expansion is now fully equipped with the latest technology in fire protection. Ryan Fireprotection is proud to have been part of a Noblesville project that will add jobs to the area over the coming years.
