Ryan Fireprotection is proud to be a part of the design/build project for the new KAR headquarters in Carmel, IN. The 5-story, 250,000 square foot building was constructed with concrete and steel. The 13-acre campus is home to a brand-new office building featuring an open floor plan and collaborative workspaces. Almost 1,600 of KAR’s 17,400 employees are located in Indiana, and the new location provides space for an additional 400 jobs. KAR’s new headquarters and campus will house the company’s innovation, technology and data as a service division and serve as the US headquarters for TradeRev, KAR’s mobile app-based auction subsidiary.
The project is a testament to the benefits of utilizing the latest technologies. Ryan Fireprotection was involved in this project from the very beginning. With the use of Building Information Modeling Ryan was able to add value by coordinating the installation of fire protection systems with the construction team. Through value engineering ideas, Ryan Fireprotection was able to save time and money on construction. The $70 million building was constructed in a mere 17 months.
Ryan Fireprotection installed a fire sprinkler system and a class 1 fire standpipe. One challenge encountered was finding a way to install a standpipe riser in an ornamental stairway. Ryan worked with the fire department to find a solution that was both safe and aesthetically pleasing.
