As automatic fire sprinkler systems and automatic fire alarm systems are becoming more common in new construction, it is becoming extremely important for firefighters to learn the best techniques for fighting fires in structures with these modern systems. Luckily, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) has launched a new training module to address this issue. The NFFF’s new training module is called Automatic Fire Sprinkler and Alarm Systems and it resides on the Fire Hero Learning Network (FHLN). Firefighters can complete the course at their own pace and can be done online with a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. The course earns firefighters one credit hour.
The goal of this training module is to prepare firefighters for how they should approach a burning building when an automatic fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm system is operating. They will also learn how to interact with these modern systems. Because even though fire sprinklers limit the spread of a fire, firefighters are responsible for completely extinguishing it. “The information will help ensure an efficient operation creating a safer environment for citizens and firefighters” said Chief Ron Siarnicki, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Executive Director.
Firefighters can register for the training module at www.fireherolearningnetwork.com.
