Joint Commission and HFAP Inspection Requirements

In addition to meeting NFPA requirements and state and local codes, healthcare facility directors and managers also have to meet the standards of their healthcare accreditation organization. The oldest and largest accreditation organization is the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission accredits and certifies over 20,000 healthcare entities in the United States. The Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) is another large accreditation organization, which bases its standards on guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
